Basic Hybrid Powertrains
This seminar assumes little to no exposure to hybrid vehicles. Beginning with the basic architectures of hybrid powertrains, we will build upon a series of concepts until we have established the fundamental operation and energy/power flows of all major types of
hybrid vehicles on the market today as well as in the near future.
Topics will include electric drive components, integration of the output of an electric drive with the output of an internal-combustion engine, changes to the engine itself, changes to the vehicle’s starting and charging system, drive-by-wire systems such as electric
power steering, air conditioning, and coolant pumps as well as electrohydraulic braking, HV protection circuits, safety procedures, HV component removal, scan data, and DTCs.
